The programme, available shortly on both DVD and VHS Tape, is the first in a new series from LocoWatch Video called PowerScene Magazine. In each issue, the programme will feature several in-depth video articles covering diesel and/or electric traction on the National Network or the many heritage lines. In addition to which we'll also bring you the latest news stories and motive power update.

As an special inclusion, our NewsXtra feature takes a look at the Mid-Hants Railway diesel gala, held in late May. Locomotives featured include Class 33 No. 33103 Swordfish, Class 45 No. 45060 Sherwood Forrester, Class 47 No. 47355 and Class 50 No. D444. Also included are the railway's first generation DMU and recently acquired Class 205 'Thumper' unit.

Farewell to the Class 56s
The end of March saw the final workings for the Class 56 locomotives, Britain's first Type 5 locomotive designed specifically for heavy freight work. Our camera's followed the class in their final days around Lincolnshire and Yorkshire. We also look at the final EWS Class 56 hauled railtour from Bristol Temple Meads to York and back with Class 56 No. 56078 Doncaster Enterprise and 56115 Barry Needham.

North Yorkshire Moors Railway Diesel Gala
April 23rd - 25th saw the NYMR's resident diesel fleet in action, joined by various visiting locomotives from the East Lancashire and Great Central (Nottingham) Railways. Following on from our successful programme "NYMR Spectacular 2003 - The Official Video" last year, our camera's were once again on the line to record the 2004 event. Locomotives seen in action are: Class 08 No. 08556 and 08850, Class 24 No. D5061, Class 25 No. D7628, Class 37 Nos. 37197 and 37261, Class 44 No. 44004 Great Gable, Class 45 No. 45133, Class 50 Nos. 50007 Sir Edward Elgar and 50033 Glorious.

Freight Traffic In The Aire Valley
Despite the loss of the Class 56 and 58 fleet and the near take over of most coal services by the General Motors build Class 66 fleet, the Aire Valley around Milford Jn and Knottingley in West Yorkshire still sees a wide variety of passenger and freight traffic. In this section we look at the different types of freight services along with the regional passenger operations. We also go behind the scene's at Drax Power Station.

Modern Archive (Early-Mid 1990s)
A look back to some of the sights of more than 10 years ago. With views of 47s in Devon and Cornwall, 37s on the North Wales Coast and the heavy Scunthorpe - Immingham Iron Ore trains.

We welcome readers contributions to PowerScene Magazine. In normal circumstances we can only accept contributions filmed with MiniDV, Digital 8 or other digital format camera's and using a tripod. If you would like to contribute, either on a one-off or permanant basis, and would like advice on how to go about this, please feel free to contact us - we're happy to help if we can!
