Submitting
footage
We welcome viewer submissions for all of our programmes, especially
PowerScene Magazine. To enable us to keep the reproduction quality
of the programmes high, we are only able to accept footage that
has been filmed on a digital format video camera (such as Digital8,
MiniDV or DVCam) using a tripod.
Submissions are welcomed either
on an infrequent or regular basis and any footage that we are able
to use in one of our programmes will be paid for at our usual rates.
In addition we'll provide you with a complimentary copy of the video
or DVD which features your footage.
If you'd like to become one
of our regular freelance cameramen for your area, then please do
contact us to discuss this further.
The questions below are those
frequently asked and may help to solve any queries you have. If
they don't however, please do not hesitate to contact
us.
I've taken a some video
footage that you may be interested in, where do I go from here?
Well, assuming it complies with the above statement regarding video
formats and has been filmed on a tripod, your first line of action
is to contact our production team. You can do this either via e-mail
to powerscene@locowatchvideo.co.uk
or by phone (07792) 987526. We'll then advise you whether or not
we are able to us it.
You've said
you'd like to see the footage concerned. How do I send it to you?
If you have the ability to copy the tape, either to a blank digital
format tape (i.e. blank MiniDV or Digital8 cassette) or a VHS tape
then please do so. As a precaution against tapes going missing in
the post, MASTER CAMERA TAPES should only be sent if requested,
or if you have no way of copying the footage to another tape or
format.
I can only
send you the master tape. What should I do?
Sending the master is fine, but we cannot accept any responsibility
for it. If you can only send the master tape (or we've seen a copy
of the footage and have requested the master to be sent through
to us) please ensure it is sent in secure and safe packaging. We'd
also suggest that you send it Recorded Delivery. That way the tapes
have less chance of becoming lost in the post.
You've seen
a copy of my video footage and have now asked for the master. Why
can't I just send the master to start with?
There is no reason why the master tape can't be sent to us from
the start. However, it may be that we are unable to use the footage
in our programmes and we return the tape to you. In that case, the
master is being sent through the post (with the associated risks
of being lost) for no reason. Hence, we will only ask for the master
once we have seen and accepted the footage.
Why do you need the master
tape?
The master tape is required to keep the quality of our programmes
as high as possible. A copy to a non-digital format, will have lost
some quality which is why we ask for the original master tape.
Normally, I copy my master
tape to a VHS tape and then record over the master tape. The VHS
master will be acceptable to you won't it?
Unfortunately not. There are always exceptions to the rule, but
99.99% of the time we must ask for the original master tape that
the digital video camera recorded. Without this there is unfortunately
too much quality lost.
Will I get my tapes back
when you've finished with them?
Definitely. VHS copies
of tapes which have been sent into us to view the footage are normally
turned round within a week. We realise however, that master tapes
are important to you and we'll always try and return these with
48 hours.
How do you send master tapes
back?
Master tapes will always be returned from us using Royal Mail Recorded
Delivery unless you specify otherwise.
